Daybreak Swim School is powered by husband and wife team Paul & Erin. They live in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and are parents of two. Their 8 year old is a member of our local swim team and loves to surf our beautiful North Florida beaches. Our one year old is a little fish who loves playing & learning in our backyard pool.

Erin is a professional swim instructor and has been working in aquatics for over two decades. She has spent a significant portion of her career training hundreds of swim instructors, coaches and lifeguards. Erin has a bachelors degree in education and her favorite food is sushi.

Paul has a business background and is passionate about creating products that improve people’s lives. Products that Paul has designed and manufactured are used by hundreds of thousands of people every day!  He loves driving his street legal golf carts and playing video games with his son.

In Erin’s decades of experience teaching swim lessons and training swim instructors she has learned 3 important things…

1. You’re never too old or too young to learn how to swim.

While, like many things, it is best for children to begin swim lessons by age 3, it is a very important skill that can be mastered at any age. Our lessons are geared towards 1-4 year olds, but can be easily modified for use at any age!

2. Given the right curriculum and mentor, anyone can learn to teach children to swim.

Erin has trained hundreds of swim instructors. Just like the children she has taught, these teachers have come in all ages and from all backgrounds and abilities. Most of them have no or very little background in either swimming or teaching, they just share the goal of helping kids learn one of the most important life skills! Our course is designed to teach you to be a swim instructor using the same curriculum used to train professionals.

3. Every child deserves to be safe in the water and find joy in learning to swim.

Drowning remains the leading cause of accidental death in children under 4. It is our mission to change this statistic by offering affordable, flexible, proven swim lesson curriculum for caregivers to do with their children. We believe that every child can and should learn to swim in a way that is safety-oriented, while still being a fun and positive experience for both children and caregivers.

The philosophies that guides our teaching

Safety First

Our curriculum is a safety first approach to swimming. A safety first approach to learning to swim means that your child will know and understand how to be safe in and around water. In every lesson we will review basic safety components with your child such as; “Never go in a pool without a grownup” & “How to get to safety if you fall in”. We believe that it is imperative that your child gain a deep respect for water safety and know how to implement these swimming skills in real-life scenarios. It is also important that your child learn these skills in a way that they enjoy and feel safe & confident in. Through our course and your teaching, your child will learn applicable, real life swimming skills in a gentle, loving environment.

Simplicity

Our course is designed to be practical and simple to teach. Children learn best through repetition and our 6 skills are the framework that you and your child will build on as they progress. Some aspects of learning to swim can be challenging for some children, which is why we’ve broken down our lesson into 6 skills that will be easy for you to follow as a teacher, and will grow with your child from the beginning stage. Along with the basics, We’ve included tips & troubleshooting for each of these skills to help you and your child progress through the more challenging parts.

Learning to Love Swimming

Our approach views each child as a lifelong learner, and honors the special loving bond between children and their caregivers. We believe in pairing safety & fun in a way that nurtures children and respects their relationship with swimming. Our course includes learning through play and songs, which are highlighted as an integral part of each swimming skill.
